Lack of truck parking spots

Caused by the growth of road haulage the truck parking situation is a growing problem.

According to a study of the IHK Duisburg and University Duisburg every second driver has to drive more than 15km to find a suitable parking space. To find a parking space is reportedly similar to playing the lottery.

After 5pm more than 50% of the drivers have to search 30 to 60 minutes for a parking slot, to follow the rest periods required by law. This is causing additional driving time, higher fuel usage, exhaust gas pollution and noise disturbance. Due to the lack of parking slots the risk of cargo theft is increased as well.

The reason for the extensive search of parking spaces is that drivers are often not informed about the parking situation. Apps on this topic are barely used.
